LAKE OF THE OZARKS
AMATEUR RADIO CLUB MINUTES
March 13, 2019
The meeting was called to order by Larry Cicchinelli (K3PTO) at 7:00 p.m. Introductions followed: There were 18members and no visitors present. Well, there was one visitor when he walked in, but he was a member when he walked out.
The February, 2019 minutes had been sent out via email and were approved. The financial report was also presented at the meeting.
Standing committee reports:
- • REPEATER: Fred Groce reported that the code ID is still interrupting conversations, but other than that, it is working well.
- • EMRGENCY NET: Ernie Venis ran the net this morning. He had 8 check-ins on the 146.73 repeater and 7 on the 146.955 repeater including one from Kansas.
Mark your calendars for the April 10th emergency nets starting at 10:00 a.m. and LOARC Club meeting at 7:00 p.m.
- • TRAILER COMMITTEE: Nothing to report.
- • TESTING LIAISON: There were no people there for testing.
- • WEB PAGE:
Several of the club’s members received a scam email the day of the meeting purportedly from our President, Larry Cicchinelli, (K3PTO) asking them to go to a store and purchase ten $100.00 gift cards for a charitable organization and that he would pay them back. People wondered if the email addresses were obtained from our Club’s website. Jack McGuire (KD0QEB) said that the only people whose contact information is on our website are the three officers. Fortunately, all those receiving the email were savvy enough to not fall for the scam.
Jack also mentioned that the information on the side of the home webpage is provided by an automatic download from the ARRL. He has no control over what is there.
And, Jack said that, of our members, only half have their photos on our website. We would like to get more members’ photos posted, so if you are willing, please email a photo to Jack or Glenn, or let Glenn know, and he will take your mug shot at the next meeting.

- • OLD BUSINESS: None.
- • NEW BUSINESS:
Eatin’ Meetin’ Change:It was suggested by Gary (KE5JTL) that in order to enable and encourage more participation, that we change our Eatin’ Meetin’ day and time to a Saturday breakfast. A show of hands revealed that there were six members in attendance who work and making the Eatin’ Meetin’s is difficult if not possible for them. A discussion followed in which it was pointed out that a Saturday breakfast time would conflict with our Saturday Morning LOARC 2 Meter Net. Others suggested that a Saturday might be fine, but some thought that would limit our selection of restaurants – not as many open for breakfast. A Saturday luncheon was considered, but some thought restaurants would be more crowded on Saturday, especially during the summer months. One member voiced “Leave it alone. Old people don’t like change!” Finally, it was agreed that a survey should be sent out asking for people’s preferences. This has been done with the current Eatin’ Meetin’ email announcement for March 22nd and 29th. If you have not responded, please do so by email to [email protected]
New Members:We have had four new members join at or since the February meeting. Three of them were in attendance and were asked to stand up and introduce themselves. Per our Bylaws, a vote was taken to admit them to membership.
Robert Harmon, KE0TTL
Bob Hibbitts, KE0UQJ
Chuck Renfroe, AE0FC
Lydia Jones, KD0GCU – not present – she has started Master Naturalist training which is on Wednesdays, but sent word that she will be back when that is completed.
Congratulations to all on being approved, and welcome to the best ham radio club in Camdenton, MO!
Field Day: June 22nd and 23rd.Larry (K3PTO) has agreed to head up OUR Field Day activities and asks for each of you, our members, to email him to let him know what days and times and in what capacities you will be willing to be there.([email protected])It was pointed out that Field Day is a great opportunity for those who are Tech licensees to operate on HF bands (normally prohibited to them) under supervision of those with higher class licenses.
Fred’s Station open to Visitors:Fred Groce (K0FG) invited anyone who would like to operate HF bands, (digital or ssb) to come to his house and operate his home station. Please arrange with Fred as to when you would like to come.
Bylaws Update. A suggested change of our Bylaws was sent out to the membership for review prior to the Club meeting. Glenn (K0KER) presented the concept for making the changes. A discussion followed in which it was pointed out that the definition of “quorum”, mentioned in several places, was neither clear nor consistent and needed to be addressed before the membership would be comfortable voting for the changes. Steven Bouck (AA4SB) agreed to do some research on this and work with Glenn to improve the definition. The Bylaws as amended will be addressed as old business at the next Club meeting.
