August 2019 Minutes

LAKE OF THE OZARKS
AMATEUR RADIO CLUB MINUTES

August 14, 2019

The meeting was called to order by Larry Cicchinelli (K3PTO) at 7:00 p.m.  Introductions followed: There were 14 members present and no visitors.

The July, 2019 minutes had been sent out via email and were approved. The financial report was also approved.

Standing committee reports:

  • REPEATER: Gary Welsh (N0RIJ) said that the repeater is working good.  There is now a tone on the output which is 141.3.  Remember that when the repeater is not in use, it is in sleep mode, so wait 1 second to speak since there is a delay, and if you give your call sign, the first two or three characters won’t be heard.
  • EMRGENCY NET: Ernie reported eight check-ins.

Mark your calendars for the emergency drill at 10:00 a.m. and club meeting on Sept 11, 2019.

  •  TRAILER COMMITTEE: Fred (K0FG) reported that Tom Smith (WA0OFO) donated a cooler to the Club upon his departure for AZ.  The effort to install antenna coax connectors is progressing in that the outside box to contain the connectors has been purchased as have the 90-degree connectors.  The next thing to be done is drill a hole through the side of the trailer where we want the coax to come in and measure the thickness of the trailer wall so we can obtain the correct length barrel connectors.  This should be a work item for our next workday.
  •  TESTING LIAISON: No one to test.
  • WRECKING CREW:  Fred reported that Dave Chase called him to say he is cutting back on his ham radio efforts and has Elecraft K-1 and K-2 radios and some wire antennas for sale.
  •  2 METER NET: Ron reported that he had 13 check-ins two weeks ago and nine last Saturday.

Jack McGuire (KD0QEB) asked when the Net Control schedule for next year would be published.  Here is a suggested schedule to be discussed at the September meeting. Please confirm that you can do the months to which you are assigned or not.  There is one opening for which someone may volunteer.  If you would like to take a month that is already assigned, the person currently assigned would more than likely relinquish his assignment to you.

TRAINING CLASSES September 28th and October 26th:

The announcement of our two Tech classes was published in the Camdenton Adult Education classes release and a couple of people have already signed up for the first class.  Jack said he did not publish the entire announcement on the website but did put in a summary blurb with a link to the sign-up website.

We will need monitors to be available during the training day to answer questions asked by the attendees and to keep order in the room, and we will need three VE’s during the afternoon to do the testing.  Hands were raised by those who said they could attend, but no names were taken except for VE’s: Steve, Fred and Glenn volunteered to be VE’s.  The actual group of club members who will participate as monitors and at what times will be finalized at the September meeting; however, a sign-up sheet like the one below will be used at the meeting, so be thinking about when you would like to help out.

Glenn (K0KER) said that the printing of the training materials on his laser printer that can print both sides of the page would require the purchase of paper and a new toner cartridge.  It was moved seconded and approved to allow the purchase of the paper and toner cartridge with a limit of $100.00.  (Follow up: the cartridge cost only $60.00, and Glenn agreed to prorate the Club’s cost to the amount of toner actually used.)
