September 2019 Minutes

LAKE OF THE OZARKS
AMATEUR RADIO CLUB MINUTES
September 11, 2019

The meeting was called to order by Larry Cicchinelli (K3PTO) at 7:00 p.m.  Introductions followed: There were 15 members present and 3 visitors.

The August 2019 minutes had been sent out via email and were approved.  The financial report was also approved.

Standing committee reports:

  • REPEATER: Gary (N0RIJ) said everything is working well.
  • EMRGENCY NET: Ernie Venis (WØLTC ) said that he had 7 check-ins on our repeater and no check-ins on the 955 repeater, but it’s having power problems.

Mark your calendars for the emergency drill at 10:00 a.m. and club meeting on October 9, 2019.

  • TRAILER COMMITTEE: Glenn reported that the coax connector box and right-angle connectors have been obtained.  At the next workday, we should drill the holes for the barrel connectors and determine the proper length we need to buy for completing the project.  Jack suggested that we establish a three-month maintenance schedule.

There was some confusion as to who has the keys for the storage facility door.  At the next maintenance day, we need to see who has keys to the facility and get some made if necessary.

  •  TESTING LIAISON: There was one person for testing.
  • WEB PAGE: Jack said he has updated the current events all over the country but be aware that these events are subject to change, so double check event dates. Jack does this updating manually from WA7BNM’s website.  Larry suggested putting a link to WA7BNM’s website.  Here it is:   https://www.contestcalendar.com/
  • WRECKING CREW: Nothing to report.

  • 10 METER NET: Larry reported that 5 people checked in on last Tuesday’s net.
  • OLD BUSINESS:

Emergency Preparedness: Gary (N0RIJ) expressed concern with our lack of readiness for an emergency and said we should be testing the generator more frequently.  We have obtained a five-gallon gasoline container that we are keeping filled at the emergency trailer.  Jack (KD0QEB) suggested we have a trailer maintenance day every three months. The gate code is 0925* or 0925#

Gary said that he runs his generator every two months, then drains the gasoline out of it and runs it dry.  He thinks we should do that on our generator as well.

  •  NEW BUSINESS: Training Classes: It was decided that if we did not have at least three signed up for each training class, we would cancel the session

A sign-up sheet for class monitors and VE’s was sent around and fully staffed.  (The first session was cancelled due to insufficient sign-up and an email was sent out to the classroom volunteers letting them know.)

Jeannie Heib (KE0NAF) is moving to Kansas City within the next few days and is having a going away party at Mexicalli Blues tonight if anyone wants to attend after the meeting.

Steven (AA4SB) asked who grounds their system and how many also connect their ground to the power company’s ground rod.  A discussion ensued, and it was recommended that if we power our stations on the house power connection, we do connect our ground rods to the power pole ground rod.  Larry asked Steven if he would prepare a short presentation on grounding based on what he has learned.
