AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

March 10, 2021

The meeting was called to order by Gary Sundstrom, President KE5JTL at 7:00 pm.

Introductions: There were 13 members and 7 visitors present for the meeting.

Minutes: A motion to accept the minutes of the February 10, 2021 minutes as received was made by Jack McGuire WJØTM and seconded by Robert Harmon KEØTTL. Motion passed.

Standing Committee Reports

REPEATER: There was none.

TRAILER COMMITTEE: There was none.

WRECKING CREW: Steve Bouck KDØSB reported that he had received an email from Glenn Commons KØKER that they are planning on moving to Texas sometime this year. They are hoping to sell the house to a ham radio operator so they would not have to remove the antennas. If that doesn’t happen, he will need help to take down and dispose of the following: 265’ loop antenna for 40 and 80 meters, a GAP Titan vertical for 40 through 10 meters, an off-center fed Windom multiband horizontal antenna, a homebrew 10 meter vertical wire antenna cut to 28.410 for the net and a K4KIO five band hex beam with Yaesu rotator on a 40’ crank over, crank up tower.

TESTING LIAISON: Steve Bouck KDØSB reported that at last month’s testing he had four pass the Tech test and one passed the Tech test and also the General test. He had seven inquiries and there are five here tonight for testing.

WEB PAGE: Jack McGuire reported that he is looking for new info for the webpage. There is a virtual Comm Academy that is free training on April 10 and 11 from Seattle. The upcoming QSO parties are listed on the webpage.

EMERGENCY NET: Ernie Venus reported that there were 5 check ins on146.73 at 10 am and 2 check ins on 146.955 at 10:10 am today.

10 Meter Net: There were 26 check ins in February on 28.410 on Tuesdays at 9 pm.

2 METER NET: There were 40 check ins in February on 146.73 on Saturdays at 9 am.

OLD BUSINESS:

Repeaterbook.com is updated that the 146.730 repeater requires a CTCSS code of 127.3 and that Echolink is no longer supported.

NEW BUSINESS:

Bank Statements: Whether to keep bank statements longer than seven years was discussed. A box of statements from 2006 and older is available. A motion to shred them was made by Jack McGuire and seconded by Larry Cicchinelli. Motion passed.

DMR Repeater: Not as much is being heard about DMR. Winlink was discussed which is email on the radio that does not require internet. JD Simmons in Jefferson City is with ARES and is the expert on it according to Ernie Venis. Samantha Henley at the Camden County EMA is interested in getting more information for her trainings since this is the preferred method for emergency events.

New Ham Information Packet: Gary Sundstrom is still looking for a volunteer to head this project.

Tech Night: Next Wednesday will be the training night held at the Camden County Emergency Management Agency starting at 7 pm. The meeting will include an Emergency Operations Center Orientation and Amateur Radio Emergency Service.

Summer Field Day: Will be held this year at the Missouri Department of Conservation on June 26th. We have a permit for the event. Steve Bouck is coordinating and is looking for five coordinators to assist him since this is only his second year doing this. The two main goals for this event are having the club members come together in order to respond to emergencies and public relations.

Eagle Days 2022: This year’s Eagle Days cancelled our participation. A volunteer will be needed to coordinate next year’s event.

Volunteers: Gary Sundstrom discussed the fact that he is looking for a volunteer for a Public Information Officer. He is also looking for a volunteer for presentations also.

New Members:

John Raub KFØDOQ gave a brief personal history and a vote was held and his membership request was accepted.

Sickness and Injuries:

There was none.

Ham Equipment for sale or swap:

Jack McGuire has an ICOM 718 with auto tuner and a TD44 rotor for an antenna.

Announcements:

The Friday Eating Meeting will be held at Chuckwagon in Camdenton.

Ernie Venis has blank ARES forms if anyone is interested. Those that have filled theirs out need to meet with Samantha Henley at the Emergency Management Office for their identification badge.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
